Hydrogen alpha Movie of a Solar Active Region

This movie of active region 1147 was captured at 1 minute intervals on 20 Jan 2011 from 1748-1927. The double stacked lunt 75mm hydrogen alpha filter was used on the tak TSA 102, and a cemax barlow was screwed onto the nosepiece of the DMK.

The AR exhibits small areas of emerging flux, and a subflare rips through the penumbra. Penumbral waves are also visible. Some areas that rapidly change in brightness may be due to newtons rings, but much of it may be due to chromospheric  grains.
