the photosphere, lower chromosphere, and upper chromosphere

this giff was made with a baader white light photo film filter, a baader 80 ang CaK filter, a lunt 2.4 ang solar diagonal, a single stacked 75mm hydrogen alpha, then a double stacked hydrogen alpha. sunspots and faculae are visible in the photosphere,  and more plage can be seen in the lower chromosphere cak images. a large filament and dark mottles and fibrils are visible in the upper chromosphere hydrogen alpha images. just click on the image to launch the giff

to make this giff, i first aligned the images with corel paintshop pro by pasting one image  on top of another and adjusting the transparency until i could move and align the images accurately. once one was aligned, a cranked the transparency back to 100 and saved the image. then i pasted another on top of the previous and repeated. i saved each image at various transparency settings (5, 10, 15, etc…) and saved each one to create the fade effect
