what a great day for solar observation. seeing was excellent due to a high pressure weather system. AR 1121 put on a great show. these movies were made at 1 minute intervals using a joystick and lucam recorder. a bright flash can be seen that corresponds to xray observations. the xray shows a typical flare profile with sudden increase (impulse phase) and slow decrease (gradual phase). however, the hydrogen alpha view shows a sudden decrease in brightness because not all flare activity is visible in hydrogen alpha. i had my girlfriend donna snap an image of me and the solar movie set up. i set the polar alignment at night and mark the tripod leg position on the sidewalk, then run the cables through the window. note the moonlite electric focuser, avery helpful item for viewing from inside on the computer screen
